In our house, Christmas wasn't Christmas without this item.
1 | lb | Sausage |
8 | slices | Wheat bread, dried and broken into small pieces |
1 | C | Finely chopped celery |
1 | C | Finely chopped onion |
3 | tbsp | Minced fresh sage |
1 | tsp | Salt |
Freshly ground pepper | ||
2 | Red delicious or Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into cubes | |
1/2 | C | Toasted hazelnuts |
2 | Eggs, beaten | |
1 | stick | Melted butter |
1/2 | C | Chicken broth (I substitute chicken broth with Cognac) |
In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium high heat until no pink remains. Drain on paper towels. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients. Makes 10 cups. Enough for a 12 to 14 lb. turkey with some left over to bake separately.
