Wash and cut cucumbers into strips. Pour boiling water over them (just to cover, do not cook), let stand 4 hours. Drain and pack solidly into jars with a head of dill or 1/2 teaspoon dry dill.
Heat the vinegar, sugar and spices to boiling. Pour over packed cucumbers in pint jars. Seal and process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
YIELD: 5-7 pints
