This recipe is somtimes cooked during the year, but always during the holidays.
1 | Quart | Green beans or 2 cans of |
whatever style of beans you like | ||
1 | Small | Onion |
8 | Slices | Bacon, fried crisp and crumbled |
1/2 | Cup | Bacon grease |
1/2 | Cup | Vinegar |
1/2 | Cup | Sugar |
Combine grease, sugar and vinegar. In a 9 x 13" glass dish, layer 1/2 of the green beans, onion and bacon; repeat. Pour sauce over beans and allow to marinate at least 3 hours (I let them set overnight). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, uncovered. Then bake and additional 20 minutes, covered.
