Butter, softened (optional) | ||
Fillings (recipes follow) | ||

Radish roses or carved vegetables | ||
Trim bottom crust from loaf: slice loaf lengthwise into 1/3-inch thick slices. Trim remaining crusts.
With rolling pin, gently flatten bread slices and spread with butter
(if using); spread with filling. Roll up jelly roll-style, starting
at narrow end. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Cut into 6 or 8 slices.
To serve: Place assorted sandwiches around rim of circular plate in wreath shape or arrange attractively to fill entire plate. Decorate with evergreen sprigs, radish roses or carved vegetables.
FILLINGS
Christmas Pinwheels:
Combine 4 oz softened cream cheese with 1 tbsp maraschino cherry juice.
Spread thin layer on bread slice. Place row of whole maraschino cherries
across narrow end of bread (or stir chopped maraschino cherries into cream
cheese mixture); roll up.
Peanut Butter and Banana Pinwheels:
Spread bread slice with smooth or crunchy peanut butter. Place
small peeled banana across narrow end; roll up.
Other Fillings:
Tuna, egg or salmon salad; chopped chicken or turkey with mayonnaise;
ham and mozzarella cheese slices; devilled ham or mild salami.
Use an assortment of breads - party rye or pumpernickel, long skinny
loaves thinly sliced, or thin slices of bread cut with round cookie cutters.
For variety, use two different breads for each sandwich.
