Shredded processed American cheese

Milk - reserve 1/4 cup

Beer

Coarsely ground pepper

Garlic powder

Frozen cut broccoli, thawed
In a dutch oven combine all ingredients except the 1/4 cup reserved milk, cornstarch and broccoli. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until cheese is completely melted. (This takes about 14 to 18 minutes).
In a small bowl stir together reserved 1/4 cup milk and cornstarch; stir into hot soup. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until soup just comes to a boil (3 to 4 minutes) Stir in the broccoli and continue cooking and stirring until broccoli is heated through (2 to 3 minutes).
