This dressing is delicious on fruit salad - of any kind - but it has a special affinity for grapefruit or in combinations when grapefruit is present. One of the most popular buffet salad bowls at Houston C. C. shredded red cabbage - thinly sliced avocados and halves of grapes.
1-1/2 | cups | Sugar |
2 | tsp | Dry mustard |
2 | tsp | Salt |
2/3 | cup | Vinegar |
3 | Tbsp | Onion juice |
2 | cups | Salad oil (never olive oil) |
3 | Tbsp | Poppy seed |
Note: It is easier and better to make with a electric mixer or blender using medium speed (onion juice is obtained..large white onion..fine grater). If dressing separates, pour off clear part and start all over adding the poppy seed mixture slowly, but it need not separate unless it becomes too hot or too cold.
