Never-Fail Short Pastry

1 | cup | Vegetable shortening |
1/2 | cup | Boiling water |
1 | tsp | Salt |
3 | cups | Sifted all-purpose flour |
- Cream shortening with boiling water until well mixed. Do this by hand or with electric mixer.
- Add salt, and flour all at once; stir until thoroughly mixed.
- Form into ball; chill in covered container at least an hour.
- Roll half the dough for a single shell. Fit into pie pan; prick well around edges and bottom with fork.
Bake at 450º F for 15 minutes.
- Dough can be kept at least 3 weeks in refrigerator.
- Yield: Pastry for 2 (9-inch) pie shells.
