Hungarian Pastry

1/4 | lb. | Butter |
1/8 | tsp | Salt |
1/2 | cup | Sugar |
1 | tsp | Vanilla |
1/2 | cup | Chopped walnuts |
2 | | Eggs, separated |
1-1/2 | cup | Sifted flour |
1/8 | tsp | Baking soda |
1/2 | tsp | Baking powder |
1 | cup | Plum jam |

Cream butter and sugar. Add vinilla and egg yolks. Sift dry ingredients into creamed mixture until dough is formed. Knead. Pat dough into 9 x 13 inch pan, lightly greased and floured.
- Spread with jam, sprinkle with 1/4 cup nuts. Beat egg whites into a meringue and spread over nuts. Add the rest of the nuts on top of meringue.
- Bake 45 minutes in 350 degree oven. Cool and cut int squares or bars.
