This is an easy and hearty meal for the cold weather.
1/4 | C | butter or margarine |
2 | lbs. | braising meat, sliced 1/2 inch thick |
2 | C | cold water |
3 | lbs. | carrots, diced |
12 | oz. | onions, diced |
3 | lbs. | potatoes, cut into pieces |
1 | tsp. | salt |
1/2 | tsp. | pepper |
1 or 2 | Dutch | smoked sausages |
Put a smoked sausage on top of the other ingredients for the final 15 minutes of cooking. Remove the meat and sausage from the Dutch oven. There will be only a small amount of liquid left in the oven. Mash the vegetables together with the pan juices and serve with the meat on top. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
