Beef in Beer (Ale)

An English Recipe

This is a recipe I made myself and is typical of English winter food, hearty and warming. It is one of my favourite recipes and hope that you in America and elsewhere in the world will enjoy it.

1	lb	Braising steak (cubed)
1	pt	Beer (ale or stout)
8	oz	Mushrooms (sliced)
12		Pearl onions
3	lg	Carrots (chopped)
1	tbsp	Herbs (thyme, parsley, bay leaf) chopped
1	tbsp	Tomato puree

• Brown meat in a little oil in a frying pan, then place in oven proof casserole dish.
• Soften vegetables in same pan. When soft place in casserole dish with meat.
• Deglaze pan with beer with tomato puree added. Bring to a boil and pour over meat and vegetables. Add herbs.
• Place in oven and cook for 1 1/2 hours at 160 c.
• When cooked if it needs thickening use a little slaked corn starch.
• Serve with green vegetable and mashed potatoes.
