Overnight French Toast

French bread

butter, room temperature

milk, low-fat

tbsp
maple syrup

vanilla

tsp
salt

cup
Swiss cheese, finely grated
powdered sugar
Spread the butter over bottom of a heavy large baking pan with l inch high sides.
Arrange the bread slices in the pan.
Beat the eggs, milk, syrup, vanilla and salt to blend well, then pour over the bread.
Turn the slices over to coat well.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Next morning preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Bake for l0 minutes, then turn the slices over and sprinkle on the cheese.
Return to oven and bake until just golden brown (about 5 to 7 minutes longer).
Transfer cooked toast to a platter and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Serve immediately. Serves 6
