This rich-tasting chocolate dessert is easy to make and inexpensive!

3/4 | Cup | Sugar |
2 | Tbsps. | Cocoa |
2 | Tsps. | Baking powder |
1/4 | Tsp. | Salt |
1/2 | Cup | Milk |
2 | Tbsps. | Shortening, melted |
1 | Cup | Nuts, chopped |
1 | Cup | Brown sugar |
4 | Tbsps. | Cocoa |
1 3/4 | Cup | Hot water |
Mix flour, granulated sugar, 2 Tbsps. cocoa, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in milk and shortening. Stir in nuts. Spread in a 9" square pan.
Mix brown sugar and 4 Tbsps. cocoa; sprinkle over batter in pan. Pour hot water over the batter. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. During baking, cake mixture rises to the top and chocolate sauce settles to the bottom. Invert square pan of pudding on dessert plates. Dip sauce from the pan and pour some over each serving. Serve warm with or without whipped cream.
