Apple Pie Bars

From the Kitchen of:  Pepper
Source:  Lutheran Brotherhood Cookbook

A powdered sugar glaze on these apple bars makes a flavor combination that's hard to beat.

Heat oven to 375°. In a medium bowl, combine 3 cups flour, 2 tablespoons sugar and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. In a measuring cup, place egg yolks and vinegar; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup. Stir milk mixture into flour mixture until dough forms a ball. Divide dough in half. On a lightly floured surface roll half of dough into a 15½ x 10½ inch rectangle; place on bottom of a 15 x 10" baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, flour and cinnamon; Mix well. Spoon apple mixture over cereal. Roll remaining dough into a 15½ x 10½ inch rectangle; place over apples. Pinch edges to seal. In a small bowl, beat the egg whites with a fork; brush over top of crust. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until lightly browned.

In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar with the milk and mix until desired consistency. Drizzle over warm crust. Cut into bars.
