Luscious Lemon Cake

This is one I had in my Master Cook files.
| LEMON CAKE | |
4 | oz. | soft butter (1/2 stick) |
7/8 | C | superfine sugar |
1 3/8 | C | self-rising flour |
4 | Tbl | milk |
2 | large | eggs |
| | grated rind of 1 lemon |
| LEMON SYRUP | |
3 | Tbl. (rounded) | powdered sugar |
3 | Tbl | fresh lemon juice |

Grease and line a 2 pound loaf pan
Set oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, sifted flour, finely grated lemon rind
and milk. Mix well to a soft dropping consistency.
Put in pan, smooth top and bake for 40-50 minutes until firm.
Mix sifted icing sugar and lemon juice and pour over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Leave in pan until completely cold.
