Auntie's Hickory Nut Cake

Cake flour

Egg whites, stiffly beaten

Hickory nuts
Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder together and sift 3 times.
Cream butter thoroughly; add sugar gradually and cream until light
and fluffy. Add flour mixture, alternately with milk. Beat after each
addition until smooth. Add vanilla.
Fold in egg whites and nut kernels.
Turn into 3 greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees until
tests done with a toothpick.

Vanilla
Cook sugar, syrup, and milk until it forms a soft ball in water.
Let cool a few minutes; add vanilla and beat until ready to spread.
