German Chocolate Cake

Heat oven to 350. Grease 3 round layer pans, and line with waxed paper.
In small bowl, pour boiling water over chocolate , stirring until chocolate is melted. Set aside to cool.
In large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time. Blend in chocolate and vanilla.
Mix in flour, soda and salt alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until batter is smooth. Fold in egg whites.
Pour batter into pans and bake 30-35 min, or until top springs back when touched lightly with finger. Cool.
Fill layers and frost top of cake with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.

Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla in small pan, cook and stir over medidum heat until thick, about 10-15 min.
Stir in coconut and pecans, beat until thick enough to spread.
