This is a recipe from my Grandmother's cookbook.

1/3 | cup | butter |
1/2 | cup | sour milk (to sour milk, add 1 tsp lemon juice, let set 20 minutes) |
1 | egg, well beaten | |
2 | cups | all purpose flour |
1 1/2 | tsp | soda |
1 1/2 | tsp | ginger |
1/2 | tsp | salt |
1/4 | tsp | cloves |
1/4 | tsp | nutmeg |
1/2 | tsp | cinnamon -- optional, for a spicier cake |
