Chris' Applesauce Cake

This recipe was given to my mother by her best friend. They have both since died, but their recipe lives on.
1/2 | Cup | Shortening |
3/4 | Cup | Sugar |
1 | | egg, beaten |
2 | Cup | Flour |
1 | tsp. | Salt |
1 | tsp. | Baking soda |
1 | tsp. | Cinnamon (or mixed cake spices) |
1/4 | tsp. | Powdered Cloves |
1 | Cup | Raisins |
1 | Cup | Walnuts (optional) |
1 | Cup | Applesauce |
Cream shortening until fluffy and creamy. Gradually add sugar. Add the egg.
Sift together next 5 ingredients and combine with raisins and nuts.
Heat applesauce to boiling point. Add to sugar mixture alternately with flour mixture.
Turn into greased and floured loaf pan and bake in a moderate oven at 350 degrees.
For tube pan, double recipe and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes.
