Apple Cake and Sauce

CAKE |
1/2 | c. | butter |
1/2 | tsp. | cinnamon |
2 | c. | sugar |
1/2 | tsp. | nutmeg |
2 | | eggs |
4 | c. | diced apples |
2 | c. | flour |
2 | tsp. | baking soda |
| | Nuts, if desired |
- Cream butter and sugar. Stir in eggs.
- Blend dry ingredients and add to mixture. Add apples and nuts. Mixture will be thick.
- Pour into greased 9xl3-inch cake pan. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees, then reduce heat to 325 degrees and bake 20 minutes longer.
SAUCE: |
1/2 | tsp. | salt |
1 | c. | sugar |
2 | c. | boiling water |
1/2 | c. | brown sugar |
4 | T. | butter |
4 | T. | cornstarch |
2 | tsp. | vanilla |
- In a saucepan, mix sugars, comstarch and salt.
- Gradually stir in boiling water and cook until thickened. Stir constantly.
- Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla.
- Serve hot over apple cake.
