In a mixing bowl, combine applesauce, shortening, eggs, water and sugar, beat on low speed for 30 seconds. Combine dry ingredients, add to applesauce mixture. Beat on low for 30 seconds. Beat on high for 2 1/2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3" loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 60 to 70 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before removing rack to cool completely. Combine glaze ingredients, drizzle over bread.
