These scones are high in flavor and low in fat.

1/4 | C | buttermilk |
1 | tsp. | vanilla extract |

1 | C | banana - mashed |
1/2 | C | chocolate chips |

1/3 | C | walnuts - coarsely chopped |

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Set aside. In a medium bowl, mix buttermilk, vanilla, egg whites and banana. Add wet mixture to dry mixture just until combined. Mix in chocolate chips.
Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly. Spray a large cookie sheet with vegetable cooking spray. Pat the dough into a 9-inch circle on the cookie sheet. Sprinkle the walnuts and brown sugar over the dough, pressing gently into the dough. Cut the dough into 12 slices. Bake for 20 minutes.
