Ginger Ale Punch

1 quart boiling water
1 tbsp tea leaves
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 dozen lemons
1 dozen oranges
1 gallon orange, lime, or pineapple sherbet
2 (33.8oz) bottles ginger ale, chilled
Pour boiling water over tea in a large bowl; stir in sugar.
Cover and steep 5 minutes.
Strain, discarding tea leaves, and chill.
Squeeze juice from lemons and oranges.
Strain, discarding pulp and seeds.
Stir fruit juice into tea.
Pour tea mixture into a large punch bowl.
Scoop sherbet into punch.
Add chilled ginger ale just before serving.
Yield: about 1 gallon.
