Cranberry Syrup

8 cups sugar
1 1/2 quarts water
3 cups cranberry juice cocktail
1 tsp lemon juice
shaved ice
Combine sugar and water in a large Dutch oven; stir well.
Cook over medium heat until mixture reaches 220 degrees.
Stir in cranberry juice cocktail and lemon juice.
Continue to cook over medium heat 5 minutes.
Remove from heat, and let cool.
Pour syrup into bottles, and chill.
Pour chilled syrup over shaved ice in glasses to serve.
Yield: about 2 quarts.
