Claret Cup

1 3/4 quarts claret or other dry red wine
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup Cointreau or other orange flavored liqueur
1/2 cup port wine
juice of 2 lemons
2 (33.8-oz) bottles club soda, chilled
2 pints fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, and halved
ice cubes
Combine first 5 ingredients in a 2-quart container, stirring well.
Chill thoroughly.
Just before serving, pour chilled mixture into a punch bowl; stir in club soda, strawberries, and the ice cubes.
Ladle into individual serving cups.
Yield: 1 gallon.
