1920's Soda Fountain Cider
From the Kitchen of: Sammie
Source: Better Homes & Gardens America's Best-Loved Community Recipes
I have not tried this (yet) but it sounds really good.
2 | cups | water |
1½ | cups | sugar |
4 | cups | apple cider |
2 | cups | orange juice - strained |
½ | cup | lemon juice - strained |
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat and gently boil about 4 minutes.
- Place the mixture in a large, freezer-proof bowl. Add the cider, orange juice, and lemon juice. Stir to combine. Cover and place the bowl in the freezer until the mixture becomes partly icy.
- To serve: Stir the mixture, then pour it into frosted champagne glasses and garnish with orange twists.
- Turn this fruity mixture into a refreshing appetizer or dessert sherbet by freezing the mixture for 8 hours or overnight. Then, to serve, scrape across the top of the frozen mixture with a spoon and pile the sherbet into dessert dishes.
- For frosty champagne glasses or dessert dishes, place them in your freezer about 1 hour before you're ready to serve.
- Try making this slush with pineapple juice instead of orange juice.
- If fresh cider is out of season, you can substitute apple juice in its place. Apple juice made from frozen apple juice concentrate has the best flavor.
