Caramel Taffy Apples

12 | med | Apples, washed |
1 | can | Sweetened condensed milk |
1 | C | Sugar |
1/2 | C | Light corn syrup |
1 | tsp | Vanilla |
12 | | Wooden skewers |
- Insert skewers into stem end of each apple.
- In medium sized heavy saucepan, combine rest of ingredients. Cook slowly, stirring constantly to 230 degrees on a candy thermometer or until a little mixture in cold water forms a very stiff ball.
- Working quickly, away from drafts, dip each apple into caramel, twirling it until well coated. Place with skewer end up on buttered plate; let stand until firm.
