Queenstown

Nestled on the shores of the clear blue waters of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by spectacular mountains, this Tyraolean style town has become a resort for all seasons. The sharp contrast between hot summers and bracing winters have enabled Queenstown to provide outdoor recreations facilities all year round, including white water rafting, jet boating, skiing, golf, water skiing, tramping, climbing, back country safari trips, scenic flightseeing, para-sailing, and more.

The Skyline Gondola takes you 430 meters [1,333 feet] above the town to a viewing balcony offering superb views of Lake Wakatpoou and the Remarkables mountain range.

The settlement began as a leased sheep run in 1860 but quickly adapted to become a commercial center for the gold rush two years later.
